We all saw this coming when Miley Cyrus performed “Party in the USA” while grinding a pole at the Teen Choice Awards a few years back. Parents and fans bombarded the singer for acting “out of place” or “too mature”. At first, I was skeptic about those comments. I really wanted to be on Miley’s side. After all, she’s evolutionized as a great fashionista and is dating the most handsome aussie in the business. In the words of Tyra Banks, “I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you”.
I felt like the world stopped for a moment when Miley came out to perform last night. I personally didn’t breath the whole time and not because how good her twerking was. But because I couldn’t believe this 20-year-old child star turned wannabe rapper is earning millions by grinding Robin Thicke at the VMAs.
The Twitter-sphere had a field day with her. From people calling Robin Thicke a “beetlejuice wannabe” to others asking Miley to please close her legs for a moment. On the other hand, it was funny to see how both genders reacted. While men were praising her effort of shaking her butt, women were ashamed. As a member of the female gender, I felt offended. I’m sorry, Miley, but the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions was not written so that you could show up touching your thing.
But the real question on my mind the whole time Miley was using foam hands as sexual toys was: “What would Hannah Montana think about this?” And so I found out. Here it is.
